Hotel Crescent Court

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

The Hotel Crescent Court is one of the loveliest in Dallas, the exterior gives a very European-like feel that can be felt throughout the lobby via the marble flooring and large arch windows overlooking a tranquil courtyard. There is an option for overnight valet at $55 per day otherwise the self-parking lot across can be validated by the hotel.

The Breakfast At Tiffany's themed tea I attended was a little over $100 per person and is not currently being offered (hopefully they'll bring it back next year). It has been replaced by their Summer Afternoon Tea starting at $90 per person (tip included). The tea selection looks to be the same, however, the pastries and sandwiches are a bit different.

The Summer Tea reservations and menu can be viewed and purchased here.

Atmosphere

A talented harpist complimented the elegant feel of the lobby and played everything from “A Thousand Years“ by Christina Perry to “Moon River” by Audrey Hepburn. When the harpist was on break, however, there was what sounded like Top 40 music playing, which was a stark and noticeable contrast. With the elegance of the occasion and the hotel overall, light jazz or classical music would've been a perfect fit. The tea setup was quite interesting with the seating being off to the side of the lobby and right in front of the bar area. There were several TVs with NASCAR on which again, was a noticeable contrast. I loved the large windows overlooking the courtyard that featured plenty of trees, and a small fountain.

Tea Experience

The table setup featured two yellow roses in a small blue vase, water, and a place setting with the afternoon tea menu available for viewing. There were 8 loose leaf tea options available and I chose the slightly sweet Vert L’Oriental, a lovely pot of green tea with essence of strawberry, peach, and passion fruit. I would have preferred each member of the party to have their own individual teapot instead of finishing one and then choosing another (as I was not a fan of my guest‘s choice and vice versa). However the service was great, and our lovely server Louis was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. The food was unfortunately the most disappointing part of the experience. The initial course is pictured below and was not worth the price. The cheese and meat on the croissant seemed like they had been sitting out for quite some time, as did the bread due to its hardness, and unfortunately the other options in this course lacked flavor. I would like to note that my guest was vegan and also had an extensive list of other dietary restrictions which they were kind enough to accommodate with a prepared plate of vegan options as well as the fruit pictured below.

The highlights include the scones served with clotted cream and jam, the cheesecake, and the surprise macaroon served in a (very on theme) little blue box. I also loved the steeping timer, it's such a simple detail that I believe more tea rooms should incorporate into their service.

Overall Score

While the food was a bit disappointing, the atmosphere and tea selection were top-notch. My highlight was the talented harpist, who will be performing throughout the Summer Afternoon Tea as well. While this tea was on the more expensive side, it is a wonderful option for special occasions and introduction for those new to Afternoon Tea. Hotel Crescent Court Afternoon Tea earns 4 out of 5 stars. This was my first themed tea and I thoroughly enjoyed it! What has been your favorite themed tea?
